Gluten Free Shepard’s Pie

Gluten Free Shepard’s Pie

My next gluten free adventure in a quest to eat food that actually fills me up was to make a gluten free shepard’s pie.  I found the recipe at Gluten Free Goddess and since it looked pretty good I figured i’d give it a try.  I’m rather new cooking so some of the ingredients were a bit challenging to find at my local grocery store but I was able to find everything.   This dish isn’t the most attractive thing but I really wasn’t going for looks, just wanting to expand my rice and salad diet. :\  So, as I started gathering all the ingredients together and cutting veggies I think I was starving because I decided to double the recipe.  🙂  The whole process went pretty smooth although I had a few small issues since I decided to...

DIY Outdoor Sauna

DIY Outdoor Sauna

This was a last minute project I built in Fall 2009.  The size is approximately 5’x7’ with 7’ ceilings.  Most of the dimensional specs come from experts in the field on sauna construction and how heat builds within these rooms.  This DIY sauna project took about 2+ months of weekend work (some weekday nights).  Since the walls are 2×4 I had to gain as much insulation as possible so I used a 2” foam board between the joists.  Floors have 4”.  I then wrapped the entire inside with a reflective moisture barrier which was then taped to seal all seams.  Horizontal strapping followed at 16” O.C. which also created an air space so the finished wood could dry evenly.  95% of the sauna (walls, benches and ceiling are Eastern White Pine.  I did use...

Custom-made Teleprompter

Custom-made Teleprompter

This task was an interesting one since I knew nothing about teleprompters. After some research I found lots of DIYers plans to make then using plywood and glass.  Since I knew I would be needed to break this setup down after each taping I needed it to be portable and small, something the DIY projects on the web were not. Having full use a metal shop has its advantages.  I sketched up some plans after reviewing other pro-version being sold. The project took about a weekend and it worked great too.  Someday, I may purchase the 40/60 or 50/50 split glass but for now I have standard glass for the reflection.  Produced 6 episodes so its a good thing I didn’t spring for the expensive...

Master Bathroom Project

Master Bathroom Project

This project was probably my biggest tile project i’ve tackled to date.  I used 16” square travertine on the floor set at 45 deg angle to the wall.  The walls and shower floor is 12” travertine.  This project is one I wouldn’t do again mainly because it required a lot of layout decision making.  Since I picked at this project over the course of 3 years while simultaneously working on other parts of the house it was difficult to keep track of where I left off.  Its now done and that is a big...
