DIY Outdoor Sauna

DIY Outdoor Sauna

This was a last minute project I built in Fall 2009.  The size is approximately 5’x7’ with 7’ ceilings.  Most of the dimensional specs come from experts in the field on sauna construction and how heat builds within these rooms.  This DIY sauna project took about 2+ months of weekend work (some weekday nights).  Since the walls are 2×4 I had to gain as much insulation as possible so I used a 2” foam board between the joists.  Floors have 4”.  I then wrapped the entire inside with a reflective moisture barrier which was then taped to seal all seams.  Horizontal strapping followed at 16” O.C. which also created an air space so the finished wood could dry evenly.  95% of the sauna (walls, benches and ceiling are Eastern White Pine.  I did use...
