Custom-made Teleprompter

Custom-made Teleprompter

This task was an interesting one since I knew nothing about teleprompters. After some research I found lots of DIYers plans to make then using plywood and glass.  Since I knew I would be needed to break this setup down after each taping I needed it to be portable and small, something the DIY projects on the web were not. Having full use a metal shop has its advantages.  I sketched up some plans after reviewing other pro-version being sold. The project took about a weekend and it worked great too.  Someday, I may purchase the 40/60 or 50/50 split glass but for now I have standard glass for the reflection.  Produced 6 episodes so its a good thing I didn’t spring for the expensive...

Bathroom Sink in Copper

Bathroom Sink in Copper

This sink is part of the 1/2 bath laundry room.  Sink base is 2 layers of 3/4 plywood wrapped in 20 oz copper.  Walls are also 20 oz copper.  All copper surfaces were sprayed with a UV clear coat to protect color.   2010 UPDATE: Sink is still in the same visual condition with only minor UV coat scratches.  I’m wanting to provide additional support to the sink base (left).  People tend to lean on it when standing up from the toilet. This has caused that side to drop slightly.   Other modifications will include a 1/4” copper square bar detail on the inside edges and the removal of the GFI if I can find a copper colored...

Metal Halide Aquarium Lighting

My curiosity moves me in many directions.  I was becoming more and more fascinated with making my own reef tank.  Of course, that has to include making my own lighting.  I previously worked on a page for this project so for further reading visit my Fish Tank lighting post and the main Fish Tank Project.

1969 Porsche 911T Interior Work

1969 Porsche 911T Interior Work

After purchasing this 1969 Porsche 911T in 2001 it became my driver car.  I slowly replaced and restored many parts on the car including completely replacing all the interior fabric with a Black Leather. Most of the cars interior panels are modular so most of the leather replacement was rather straight forward.  Some areas like door handles and ash tray got tricky but overall it was a fun...

My DIY Sea Kayak

My DIY Sea Kayak

Some projects start out with lots of steam and fizzle out before they get completed.  This is one of those projects.  Its been sitting on a shelf for many many years in hopes that I will find the desire to work on it again.  maybe… In 1996 I started a project that was me proving to myself that I could make a boat.  I don’t think I had any desire to finish the boat, just to work thru the frame work of the kayak and other mechanical components.  Below are some pictures of the kayak taken while building...

My DIY Snow Shoes

My DIY Snow Shoes

In 1990, before my first ever winter hiking adventure I decided that I would need a few items I typically didn’t bring with me during summer camping trips. Snow Shoes and a sled for my pack. This is another one of those projects that I completed so long ago that I don’t have any progress photos. I constructed the frame out of T6061 Alum tubing.  I had bent the nose and back curves using an anvil and a hammer.   These pieces are solid Alum round rod.  To connect these I used Alum tubing that slip fit over the round rod.  Pieces are just riveted together in case I needed to re-work the design.  The next steps are pretty self explanatory.  The pink part was constructed using a roll-up child sled cut to fit.  I punched a series of holes around the...
